An editorial by R. Ronald Sokol, CSP, General Manager, CSC/TC Far from the
summer doldrums ... At the Contractors Safety Council of Texas City, however, we are seeing our training volumes increase slightly from previous years. Activity at Valero Refining and BP has kept us busy. In addition, we continue to write safety manuals for our Contractor membership and assist others through the BP-required 3rd Party Safety Program audit process conducted by the National Compliance Management Services (NCMS). To date, CSC/TC has written over sixty safety manuals for Contractors and assisted countless others through the NCMS process. This task is in the capable and competent hands of Mr. Greg Smith, CSP, Operations Manager of CSC/TC. Also included in this summer’s activities is an interior "facelift" for our Texas City facility. We are in the process of completing the renovation of our entryway and reception areas, and have extended the size of our Computer Based Training lab. We plan on adding twenty-four additional computer units, which will give us a total of seventy-five computers for use. We have also redesigned out Basic Plus classroom, equipping it with a computer-aided projection system, video projection, an enhanced electronic screen and revised room layout to promote learning and facilitate instruction. On June 28, 2001, we held our 2nd Annual "Almost Free" Golf Tournament in conjunction with our Annual Membership Meeting. Elected for a two-year term (2001-2003) to the CSC/TC Board of Directors were: Mr. Larry Cunningham, Mr. Garland Copelin and Mr. Earl Hooper, Jr. The Board will elect officers for 2001-2002 during the July, 2001 meeting. Our golf tournament was a wonderful success with 135 golfers in attendance. Golfers were greeted with a breakfast of donuts, kolaches, juices and coffee followed by a plentiful supply of soft drinks, water and energy drinks distributed by the CSC/TC staff and students of the Texas City High School Interact Club. All mulligans sold at the tournament benefited the Texas City High School Interact Club, and organization promoting youth leadership activities sponsored by the Texas City Rotary Club. A total of $840 was raised for these kids. We would also like to thank DeJean Companies for the use of their golf cart for drink distribution and CSC/TC President Sonny Tholcken and Vice President Larry Cunningham for manning the cart; and Mr. David Mountford and Ms. Carla Goehring of J.W.Seligman, Inc. who provided all the beverages for the tournament. The date for next year’s tournament has already been set, so mark your calendars for June 27, 2002! Our summers may be hot, but they don’t have to be uneventful. Thanks to everyone who helped make our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament a success! Sincerely, R. Ronald Sokol, CSP, General Manager |
