Winter 2000-2001

Winter activities in 2001 included increased training volumes due to turnaround activities at BP and Valero Refining. Training volumes in January, 2001 increased to almost five thousand (5000) site specific units. This record volume included approximately twenty-five hundred (2500) contract workers being processed by CSC/TC during January 2001.

CSC/TC continued to stay involved in ARSC activities as the CSC/TC General Manager was reelected to serve on the ARSC Executive Committee as Secretary for 2001. ARSC activities included the completion of a confined space training matrix that evaluated ARSC members’ confined space training programs for reciprocity. A meeting was held on January 31, 2001 at Nederland, TX between ARSC Board and the ARSC OAC to discuss areas that ARSC needs to focus attention on. Areas addressed include the need to develop the ARSC "Common Card", central data sharing, web-based training and a continual sharing of best practices.

CSC/TC constructed 104 new test booklets for testing of the contract workers completing the Basic Orientation Plus program. These new tests included the test questions validated by Dr. Robert Hodgin.

CSC/TC distributed our annual calendar of events highlighting training activities and meeting schedules for 2001.

CSC/TC continued to attract international attention as we hosted three representatives from the United Kingdom representing Wates, LTD on February 9-10, 2001. These representatives came as a result of an international construction Safety Forum that was hosted by ASSE in October 2001 in London, England. As a result of CSC/TC’s leadership role in ASSE, we were asked to provide a tour and process overview of the training process utilized by our area contractors and User Companies.

CSC/TC General Manager served as Chairperson of an ASSE taskforce to develop a two-day Construction Safety Symposium scheduled in New Orleans, LA on November 8-9, 2001. In addition, CSC/TC General Manager attended the COPS meeting in Chicago, IL on March 15-16, 2001.

Work with our User Companies involved the discussion of providing unit specific training programs for Sterling Chemicals. This project was placed on hold as Sterling Chemicals began shut down of some of their process units.
